What did the school want to achieve?
When Alverstoke C of E Junior School first got in touch with us, they had a very worn playground with some markings that had faded almost completely. They knew it needed a refresh but still wanted to keep similar activities for their pupils. Making sure the playground had designs and markings that would encourage their children to be active during their playtimes was a priority for the school, ensuring they get their recommended daily exercise.
How did we help them achieve their desired outcome? Were there any problems, and how did we overcome them?
Since the school had some faded remaining playground markings, we needed to make sure that these were removed before the installation of any new markings. If thermoplastic is installed over existing markings, it’s likely they won’t last very long. Thermoplastic markings need to bond to the tarmac, otherwise its lifespan will only be as long as the marking underneath. We attended the site and carried out our vapour removal service, ensuring a clear, flat surface ready for the next phase of the project.
When the removals were complete, our team then fully refreshed the playground surface, bringing the colour back to black, giving the appearance of a newly tarmacked area. This provided an even, uniform-coloured canvas ready for vibrant playground markings!
The school chose some similar markings for their new playground including a 1-100 Snakes & Ladders game, 2 Netball Courts with 5 Aside Football line markings, a 1-25 Target with Throw Lines, a Mirror Me game, Outline Hopscotch, and a Custom Trail. We also installed some coloured line up points to make it easier for teachers to organise their pupils!
Our comments on the finished playground
This project definitely provides a real wow-factor and gets the seal of approval from us. We’re pleased to have made such a difference to the playground, as well as providing plenty of playground activities for the children to join in on during their breaks. The playground markings really pop on the new surface colour which will surely encourage children to play to their heart’s content.
