Boughton Primary School, East Midlands
What did the school want to achieve?
Though Boughton Primary School, in Northampton, weren’t having whole school playtimes due to covid safety measures, they still wanted to develop and create a playground that could be used by every child. They wanted something that would encourage pupils to play games with each other, besides traditional and well-known games such as ‘tag’. Head Teacher, Mary, first got in touch with us at Fun & Active Playgrounds after receiving a recommendation from another school who we had worked with previously. Mary expressed that her main objectives for the school playground was to create a bright and inviting play area, where children could play co-operatively and collaboratively.
How did we help them achieve their desired outcome? Were there any problems, and how did we overcome them?
At first, the school’s main concern was the weather, with it being December, and if the works would still be able to go ahead. However, we carry out projects all the way through the year, completing many Winter installs, and so our team were still able to attend and finish the job.
We introduced several fun games and markings, including Twister, Snakes & Ladders, Mr Wolf, King Square and a Dance With Me – all of which enable children to take part in friendship building activities! Other markings used included a classic Hopscotch for active learning, a Race Trail to encourage competition and physical play, plus a Mile a Day logo and footprints around the perimeter of the playground to inspire children to get their recommended daily exercise.
Our comments on the finished playground
We think the playground at Boughton Primary School will really enhance break times and lunchtimes and help to encourage imagination amongst pupils. All the markings chosen make the playground pop with colour which is sure to motivate children to participate, in their bubbles as well as individually!
Testimonial from the school
“We are delighted with our choice and the children love the new playground markings. The process was so easy and smooth, from the initial survey of the playground to the final laying of the markings. The playground was ready for the children to use almost immediately. We are using the playground for our individual bubbles and the children look forward to their turn on the new playground. All of the team who’ve visited school have been friendly, polite and great ambassadors for your company. We will certainly recommend Fun and Active Playgrounds to other schools in the future.”
