Wymondham C of E Primary School, East Midlands
What did the school want to achieve?
When Wymondham C of E Primary School first got in touch with us, they had an objective to improve their current playground which included an a-z design and a 1-36 number grid, both of which had become worn over the years. We spoke with Learning Support Assistant, Amy, who told us that their main aim was to use markings that would make their playground as interactive as possible for children of all ages, from reception through to year 6. Not only did they want their new playground to be bright, colourful and engaging, they also wanted the play area to be a space that encouraged physical literacy and social interaction among pupils.
How did we help them achieve their desired outcome? Were there any problems, and how did we overcome them?
Games and markings such as the 1-20 snake, A-Z snake, and 1-100 number grid were chosen to act as an engaging visual for the children so they could learn letters and numbers as part of daily lessons as well as extending their learning during break times.
Additionally, the school were interested in having a dual fitness trail and a single hopscotch game. After speaking with our knowledgeable playground specialist, Connor, the school were able to make the most of their available space by using our popular Active Trail plus a 4-way hopscotch. This meant that children would be able to play hopscotch with a group of friends, increasing interactivity!
Initially, the school weren’t sure about having the markings inside the netball court, but after receiving a drone image and design overlay, they were able to see exactly how it would look and agreed that this would be the best use of the area. We then talked through the next steps, ensuring the school were aware of exactly what would happen during installation.
Our comments on the finished playground
The playground at Wymondham C of E Primary School is now a bright and colourful retreat, full of educational and active markings! The games will help inspire children of all ages to learn during break times as well as encourage them to keep moving and enjoy different games with their peers. We’re delighted with the end result and think the playground looks amazing!
