Transform Your Community with Public Art

At Fun & Active Playgrounds, we believe in the transformative power of public art. Beyond our popular playground markings, we are passionate about enriching outdoor public spaces with vibrant, abstract, and bespoke artwork. Our public art projects, created in collaboration with talented artists, councils, and other outdoor surfacing companies, not only enhance spaces but also support community cohesion and pride.

Our Public Art Projects

The Arc, Winchester

Working in collaboration with Peagreen and Hampshire Cultural Trust, we helped bring a striking piece of public art to life at the entrance of The Arc in Winchester. The design, inspired by The Arc’s creative identity, transformed the walkway into a memorable feature that celebrates creativity and welcomes the community into the space.

Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery

We had the pleasure of working with talented artist, Hannah Broadway and Portsmouth City Council to bring colourful street art to the local area. Located outside of Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery, Hannah’s uplifting design encourages passers-by to hop, skip, dance and let loose as they pass over the colourful rug.

Portobello Market, London

Portobello is home to one of the most famous and historical street markets in the world and from that a rich community of diversity and culture which offers a truly unique and special visit every time. In collaboration with Ross Solutions, we transformed a dull tarmac area into a visually stimulating space with large-scale abstract art. These colourful designs are now seen by all who visit the market.

University of East London (UEL)

Famous for its Psychology, Media, and Architecture courses, we were excited to partner with the University of East London and Colour UDL to create a bespoke ‘zebra crossing’ design as well as a ‘Pictogram’ design and chevrons. This project has become a cherished part of the university community.

Commercial Road, Portsmouth

Situated in the city centre, we were involved with Portsmouth City Council and a talented local artist to create this bespoke thermoplastic graphic. This colourful mural was designed to decorate a new interactive area for both residents and visitors of the seaside city to enjoy.

Pear Tree Walk, London

Working again with Ross Solutions, we installed a series of inviting markings along the pathways of Pear Tree Walk. These pieces not only brighten up the area but also encourage playful interaction, becoming a hit among children and adults alike.

Why Invest in Public Art?

Public art can serve as a catalyst for community engagement and cultural expression, transforming dull areas into dynamic settings that reflect the community’s identity, history, and aspirations. Here are a few key reasons to invest in public art for your outdoor spaces:

Aesthetic Enhancement: Using thermoplastic markings for public art can elevate the visual appeal of streets, parks, and other public areas. A splash of colour and creativity can turn an ordinary space into a local landmark.

Community Identity: Art can tell the unique story of a community, town, or city, celebrating its heritage, diversity, and spirit. This shared identity can support a sense of belonging among residents.

Social Engagement: Art installations can become gathering points, sparking conversations and interactions among community members. They’re often a great backdrop for events and activities, boosting social unity.

Economic Benefits: It’s often found that attractive public spaces can boost local businesses by drawing visitors and encouraging longer stays, further strengthening local economies.

Mental Well-being: It’s thought that exposure to art in everyday environments can reduce stress, inspire creativity, and contribute to overall mental well-being.

Our Approach

At Fun & Active, we enjoy taking a collaborative approach to public art projects. We work closely with councils, local artists, and other landscaping and surfacing companies to ensure that each project resonates with its intended audience and location. Our process involves several key steps:

Design Collaboration: Our team will work with you to produce a design that aligns with your vision. We often receive architectural plans and drawings which we can turn into a reality with our thermoplastic markings. At this stage, we encourage input from residents and stakeholders to create artwork that is both meaningful and inclusive.

Customisation and Production: Once artwork is finalised, our skilled warehouse team will cut the design on our high-tech waterjet cutting machine using high-quality materials. Whatever the design, we ensure durability and longevity.

Installation: Our experienced installation team carefully place the thermoplastic markings, considering safety, accessibility, and aesthetic harmony with the surroundings.
