Our story
Founders Dave and Greg, met at school where they quickly became good friends. After leaving school, they worked together at a bank before they ventured on their own journeys. They kept in touch and would often meet at the driving range to hit a few balls. It was on one of those visits that they joyfully exchanged the news that their partners were expecting babies six weeks apart. Never one to be kept waiting, Dave’s daughter, Millie, decided to make an early appearance and Harrison, Greg’s son, made his entrance on the same day, in the same hospital!
Some months later, the duo met for lunch where Dave shared his idea of making his passion for playground markings a reality, and it was there that Fun & Active Playgrounds was formed.
From that lunch meeting to now, it’s been a whirlwind, meeting many different people and learning a lot along the way.
Dave learnt his trade working for a preformed thermoplastic manufacturer. He was collecting materials direct from the manufacturer for a distributor that he worked for at the time, and expressed an interest in the product – he soon found himself working there!
After 8 years of learning the ins and outs of the product, Dave decided it was time to use his creative side making fantastic designs for schools to take outdoor learning and activities to the next level.
Meanwhile, Greg was working in the financial services sector and was one of the youngest in the country to become a qualified mortgage advisor. This lead to him gaining a diploma as a financial advisor and running a number of successful service-based companies, where understanding customer needs and exceeding their expectations was paramount.
They have gone from working in a small home office and hand cutting playground markings on a driveway to a team of 12, investing in a state of the art water-jet cutting machine. They have outgrown and moved premises four times, enabling the company to transform the playgrounds of hundreds of schools every year.
