Funding Playground Markings with Blue Spark Foundation
Updated on: October 22, 2024
At Fun & Active Playgrounds, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to play and learn in a fun, engaging and safe space. However, we understand that funding projects can be challenging for schools, especially when budgets are tight.
We’re excited to share how schools and communities can use the Blue Spark Foundation to fund playground markings and equipment, refreshing their outside spaces without stretching their finances.

What is the Blue Spark Foundation?
The Blue Spark Foundation is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting the education and development of children and young people. They provide grants to schools, colleges and community groups for projects that enhance the lives of children. Their focus areas include arts, sports, education and the environment.
Why Apply for a Blue Spark Foundation Grant?
Playgrounds are more than just areas for physical activity; they are spaces where children develop social skills, creativity and develop their classroom learning. With the correct playground markings and equipment, these outdoor areas can be transformed into areas that reinforce classroom learning, encourage physical fitness and promote social interaction between children of all ages and backgrounds.
Financial pressures on school and community budgets mean that many worthwhile projects, which would help the education and development of children and young people, may not get off the ground simply because of the absence of funding.
By applying for a grant from the Blue Spark Foundation, schools can access the funding needed to create these enriching and memorable environments without financial pressures.

What Projects Can Be Funded?
The Blue Spark Foundation is interested in projects that directly benefit children’s educational and developmental experiences. Schools can apply for grants to fund projects which have the following objectives:
- Encourage independence
- Develop team working skills
- Develop self confidence
- Promote creativity & individuality
- Encourage aspiration
- Enhance educational achievement
- Widen educational horizons

How to Apply for a Blue Spark Grant
Applying for a Blue Spark Foundation funding is a straightforward process. Schools and community groups interested in funding their playground projects should follow these steps:
- All applications for a grant must be made online using their standard Application Form which should be completed by the person leading the project. Please ensure you have read their Grant Policy in detail before making your application and complete all sections of the form fully and clearly.
- Contact Fun & Active Playgrounds for a detailed quote and information about the playground markings and equipment you’re interested in. We can provide you with all the details you need to support your grant application.
- According to the Blue Spark Foundation, grants will only be awarded for the amount requested in the application and will not be scaled back to a lesser amount. Please do not apply for more than the amount you require as this will reduce the chances of your application being successful.
- The Blue Spark Foundation reviews applications on a rolling basis at approximately 8 week intervals.
If you’re interested in applying for a grant or simply want to explore the possibilities for your playground, we’re here to guide you through the process.
