How to Maintain your Thermoplastic Playground Markings
Updated on: April 5, 2023
Thermoplastic playground markings boast a vibrant and engaging appearance, as well as great durability compared to painted markings. We offer a 4-year warranty on our playground markings, however, we expect them to last much longer – up to 10 years! Maintaining them properly can significantly increase their life span and preserve their bright colours.
How to look after your playground markings
Once your playground markings are installed, they will maintain a quality appearance for a very long time. As the fun and games commence, over the years, it’s a good idea to pay your playground markings some attention from time to time and give them proper care in order to ensure a longer-lasting finish.
Our thermoplastic playground markings have a strong, protective surface layer that will help to keep them looking vibrant for longer. To keep them in top condition, you’ll want to remove any dirt and debris that may build up over time.
The good news is thermoplastic markings are super easy to clean and maintain and may only need cleaning once a year depending on your playground. Follow our top tips to keep your thermoplastic playground markings in good shape for longer:
- Once a week, or every other week, sweep the markings in order to keep debris and dirt away from the surface.
- In case of grime build up, use a mild detergent and a soft bristle brush to carefully remove it. Make sure the detergent is fully rinsed off afterwards.
- Once a month, it’s a good idea to hose the markings down to further remove dust and dirt build up.
- If there’s a lot of inground dirt, you may want to use a jet wash. Keep this pointed at a 90-degree angle to the marking so you are aiming downwards.
Properly caring for your school playground markings also includes avoiding actions that might damage them. For example:
- Make sure that no heavy objects are ever dragged over the markings in order to protect the surface layer and keep it in good condition.
- Be sure to watch out for any school children that might be misbehaving and chipping at the markings.
- Avoid using any strong chemicals that could harm your playground markings. Whenever you use detergents, make sure to completely wash them away.
- When jet washing, do not point the jet wash at an angle as this could cause pressure between the surface of the marking and the tarmac.
Thanks to the protective surface layer of the playground markings, as soon as they are cleaned up, the colours will instantly be rejuvenated, and the designs will look just like new.
