Playground Markings in Cumberland
What are playground markings?
Our playground markings are thermoplastic lines and designs that can be installed on many surfaces, including tarmac and concrete. These long-lasting markings come in 18 bright colours and are fantastic for adding layers to lessons at your Cumberland school, providing a fun play area and getting hearts pumping.
Why are playground markings so important for playgrounds?
Improving safety
You can use playground markings to designate assembly areas or areas that are off limits to keep your students safe. In terms of more everyday concerns, you can use playground markings to teach children about road safety, as well as provide safe areas for ball sports and races that won’t then conflict with those who want to sit quietly (who can have their own area created).
Promote an active lifestyle
Only 47% of children are considered active, according to government research. The National Child Measurement Programme (2019/2020) found that 9.9% of Reception children and 21% of Year 6 children were obese. The best way to combat this is to encourage children to be more active, in conjunction with a well-balanced diet. Getting people to be active can be as simple as giving them an area that will allow this, for example games and sports markings in a playground that will be exciting for the playground’s users.
Promoting mental health care
It’s important to recognise that children need mental health support, as 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14. Even if there are no particular concerns, it’s vital to encourage regular breaks and give children the opportunity to get some fresh air and exercise. This will improve their moods, sleep and help to reduce their stress levels, according to Mind.
What playground markings we’d choose
Include a variety
You’ll need to tailor your selection to the users of your playground in Cumberland but it’s still a good idea to include options that cater to education, entertainment and getting active, though we know that there will be some crossover there. If you need some advice on getting the balance right, our team is here to help.
Younger children would love…
Learning with playground markings is fantastic, as it allows children to visualise lessons and problems differently to the way they would in the classroom. It’s much easier to understand directions with a properly-oriented compass playground marking on the floor and you can use that to send them around the playground. To get younger children active, you should try our active spot circuit (adjust the time for the age), Build Your Own Trail and Dance with Me markings.
Older children would enjoy…
Older children should have fun activities too but theirs will usually take a slightly different format. Games like Capture the Flag and King Square will go down well and you can include an extra hint of competitiveness with court sports like football, basketball and netball. For more of a mental workout, try a game of chess or Snakes and Ladders.
