How to Play Duck, Duck, Goose: School Instructions
Duck, Duck, Goose is a playground classic and popular game among primary school pupils. It’s a fantastic resource for encouraging children to develop social interaction, physical activity, and attentiveness.
Setup:
1. Gather a group of children (at least 5 players, but more is better).
2. Arrange everyone in a large circle, seated on the markers.
3. Choose one player to be the “Picker.” The other players remain seated as part of the circle.
How to Play:
The Picker’s Role:
The Picker walks around the outside of the circle, lightly tapping each player on the head while saying “Duck” for each tap.
Choosing the Goose:
At some point, the Picker taps a seated player and says “Goose!” instead of “Duck.”
The chosen Goose then immediately stands up and chases the Picker around the circle.
The Chase:
The Picker must run around the circle and try to sit in the empty spot left by the Goose.
If the Picker sits down before being tagged by the Goose, the Goose becomes the new Picker.
If the Goose tags the Picker before they sit down, the Picker remains the Picker for the next round.
Game Continuation:
The new Picker begins another round of Duck, Duck, Goose.
The game continues until everyone has had a turn or for as long as desired.
Rules:
1. The Picker must say “Duck” and “Goose” clearly.
2. Players in the circle must remain seated and cannot move until they are chosen as the Goose.
3. The Picker must run around the outside of the circle and cannot cut through or over the circle.
4. If the Goose does not tag the Picker, they must take the Picker’s place.
Tips for Fair Play:
• Encourage everyone to take turns and play nicely.
• Make sure the playing area is free from obstacles to prevent injuries.
• If someone does not want to be the Picker or Goose, allow them to pass their turn.
