Sports Premium Funding is a government programme designed to help primary schools to gain access to sports equipment and facilities so that they can provide physical activities for both P.E. lessons and break times. The initiative seeks to build a positive relationship between the children and physical activity so that they will continue to be active throughout their lives, as the habit is easier to form when they are young. Every young person should have access to the tools they need for a healthy and active life and it is the aim of the programme to achieve this.
Will Sports Premium Funding be available later?
During the 2019/2020 school year, not all the funding was spent and so the rules were relaxed so that the remaining budget could be spent for the 2020/2021 school year as well. This has since been relaxed further so that the remainder (where schools have some left) can still be spent in the 2021/2022 school year. This money should be spent by 31st July 2022.
How can we help?
Getting active is so important for the health and wellbeing of your school’s children, which is why we work hard to make sure that they have many great options to get some fresh air and exercise. One way recommended by the programme to use the funding is by including an active mile. We offer Mile a Day playground markings and Build Your Own Trail playground markings that have been designed to make moving around more interesting for the children. The children will be having so much fun that they won’t mind getting active and can take it at their own pace to make it more accessible for them.
Getting children into sports from a young age can help them to progress further in that sport and aid the development of their mobility. If you provide sports courts, it will enable the children to spend the maximum amount of time engaging with sports like tennis, football, basketball and netball, which are all fantastic for getting hearts pumping and improving agility. If you’d like a colourful, anti-slip surface, take a look at our sports coating which offers a brighter, friendlier play area.
It doesn’t have to be all about sports though, there are many other ways to get children active, like with roadways where the children can pretend to be cars zooming around or adventure trails where the children will avoid obstacles and weave their way through the course.
