Best Playground Markings For Welsh Schools
Updated on: November 3, 2023
With the Welsh government’s target to have 1 in every 3 children in year 1 receiving a Welsh-medium education by 2031, Welsh school playground markings could soon be the norm.
According to data from the Welsh government’s Annual Population Survey, there are already 906,800 Welsh speakers in Wales over the age of three. That’s almost a third of the population.
But the Welsh government has bigger plans.
Its Cymraeg 2050 Strategy sets out a five-year plan to double the daily use of Welsh and have more than 1 million Welsh speakers by 2050.
And they plan to take action from the very earliest stages with a goal to have at least 26% of children in year 1 taught in Welsh by 2026.
From more Welsh-speaking teachers to new Welsh-medium nurseries and schools, the Welsh language is set to play a much bigger part in the daily lives of all children in Wales.
But just like any other language study, learning Welsh has got to be fun.
As a leading supplier of play equipment and playground markings for Welsh schools, we’ve got some brilliant Welsh language resources for you.

And it’s not just EYFS and KS1. The Welsh government wants both children of all ages and adults, to be using Welsh more often and there are lots of initiatives on the horizon to ensure this happens by 2050.
If you’re one of those people who doesn’t really like change, you may be wondering if this is all necessary.
Government strategies do often come and go but Cymraeg 2050 is a landmark plan with outcomes that everyone will notice.
The Benefits of Learning Welsh
And it will be worth it because the benefits of learning Welsh are many.
You’ll have an opportunity to dip into a heritage that stretches back hundreds and hundreds of years. Welsh is one of Europe’s oldest languages. It’s thought to have first been in wide use sometime between 400 and 700AD.
From better job prospects to honouring the Welsh culture, easier interactions with others and keeping in step with the younger generations who will grow up using Welsh seamlessly, the revival of the Welsh language is a reminder of the power that words have in building a sense of belonging and pride.
Make Learning Welsh Fun
Our playground markings are a great way to make learning Welsh fun. In fact, children won’t even realise they’re practicing the Welsh language as they play.
The children at Ysgol Llanllyfni School in Caernarfon said their new Welsh language playground markings were:
‘amazing’,
‘exciting’,
‘done so fast we got every playtime!’
