Playground Markings in Leicestershire
What are playground markings?
Playground markings are brightly-coloured designs and pictures that are used for games, sports and educational activities. They are made from thermoplastic and are long lasting and non-toxic. Our playground markings are environmentally friendly and we offer them in 18 eye-catching colours.
Why are playground markings so important for playgrounds?
Enable an active lifestyle
In a 2018/19 study, 19.6% of children in Reception were found to be obese or overweight and 30% of 10-11 year-olds fell into this category in Leicestershire. The number was far higher for adults so it’s important to get good habits established for children when they are young so that they can avoid serious health complications later on in life. It doesn’t have to be a lot of activity every single day but even 2.5-5 hours a week can really make a difference.
Boost mental health
One in 10 children between the ages of 5 and 16 will experience a clinically-diagnosable mental problem and 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14 so it’s important to make sure that when you’re taking care of your students’ educational needs that you’re also looking after their mental health needs too. Having an active break from studying will help to reduce stress, control racing thoughts, improve their sleep and boost their moods.
You can use playground markings to check in with their feelings and encourage them to open up about anything that is bothering them.
Improve safety
Imagine you have two groups of children, one is playing a game of football at break time and the other is playing a game of catch, both of these activities are great but you don’t really want them to mix. It wouldn’t be a very fun break if those playing catch are knocked down by children running for the football or the footballers getting hit by a ball or beanbag. Playground markings can give these groups safe boundaries for playing their games so that they don’t get in each other’s way.
It doesn’t end there though, playground markings can mark off-limits areas, as well as show designated assembly zones in emergencies and direct the flow of traffic around the school.
Some of our amazing playground markings we’d recommend
Include a variety for a better space
Having a variety of different types of markings will make your playground far more interesting for your students and will mean that they will be far more likely to keep using them. Including a mixture of educational, active and entertaining playground markings will allow them to be used for breaktime, P.E. lessons and other lessons such as Maths, English and Geography.
We helped Wymondham C of E Primary School to create a playground that encouraged physical literacy and social interaction. We did this by including our 4-way Hopscotch, A-Z Snake and Active Trail, which added lots of colour to the playground.
Playground markings for younger children
Getting some fresh air is a great way to help lessons sink in so why not take your lessons outdoors and teach your children their sounds with the Space Phonics marking, the time with our 24-hour clock and about space with our Solar System marking? You could even get them active with our Dance with Me stations or Twister playground marking.
Playground markings for older children
Get their minds and bodies active with our Chess and Circuit Training playground markings, which are easy to see an improvement in over time. Don’t forget to include popular court sports like basketball and netball so that they can practise their teamwork and co-ordination or introduce some healthy competition with tennis and King Square.
There are so many options for different activities, styles and colours for playground markings so you can really create a space that is unique to the needs and interests of your students.
